Holding Tank Tips for Trips

We are the professionals who know how to clean pipes, valves and holding tanks. If you will follow these basic procedures you can make your RV tank cleaning process last one to two years.

(Before Your Trip)
1. Filter all the water that goes into your RV.
2. Fill and flush your fresh water tank with lemon-bleach/white vinegar solutions.
*Put 5 gallons of water in black tank and add 8oz of All Pro Odor Eliminator per tank-full for odor control only.
*Put 5 gallons of water in gray tank and add 4oz of All Pro Odor Eliminator for odor control only.
3. Flush hot water heater and check anode rod.

(During Your Trip)
1. Always filter incoming water to your RV (bad water will hurt everything).
2. When camping, keep both black and gray valves closed (unless you have a clothes washer on your gray tank).
3. Never empty tanks that are less than 3/4 full.
4. Top off both black and gray tanks with clean water, when possible, before emptying.
5. Always start off with a small amount of water in your tanks (NEVER start using your tanks when they are dry).
6. Always use single-ply paper in RV's and boats.

(After Your Trip)
1. When possible, drive home with your tanks half full and dump at your local dump station (this allows your tanks to "stir" themselves while you're driving).
2. Store your sewer hose as cleanly as possible.
3. If you winterize, always add a little RV antifreeze to your tanks (helps lube gaskets and valves).

Remember, water flow is friction and friction is what cleans tanks. The more water in and out of the tank, the better it will clean. Water is the best cleaning agent.

Most importantly...have fun!If you need to talk to one of our techs because of a question or problem, feel free to call us at 623-566-1533.

Our Services, a Q & A

Q) What is causing odor problems in my black and grey tanks?
A) Odor problems are usually caused by the content that is still in the tanks. Get rid of ALL the sludge and you get rid of the odor. The use of chemicals only masks the problem and does not fix it.

Q) What is causing mis-reading problems on my black tank probes or sensors?
A) Mis-reading problems on black tanks can be caused by two things. Un-clean tanks with sludge and paper hanging up on the sensors, or electrical problems with the sensors and control panel. It is usually caused by dirty tanks.

Q) Is the combining of different chemicals in my holding tank causing odors?
A) Yes. The mixing of different chemicals can cause a reaction that generates odors.

Q) How is the use of chemical treatments effecting our environment and the city sewage treatment plants in every city?
A) Every time you dump your chemically treated holding tanks, that sewage must be treated by the local sewage treatment center. So you see, less chemicals make it easier to recycle and reclaim the water for the environment. Not one chemical company will argue that their chemicals are better for the environment than fresh clean water.

Q) If I purchase a pre-owned RV, am I getting somebody else's "foreign matter"?
A) Yes, because cleaning attachments and chemicals are not powerful enough to remove all foreign matter. Our cameras show this fact.

Q) Is a tank replacement necessary if I have an odor or mis-reading problem that can't be solved with chemicals?
A) No. Problems are usually caused by unclean tanks. A thorough hydro-cleaning of these tanks will solve the problem.

Q) Do cleaning attachments that a RV'er can buy really work? What psi pressure are they operating at?
A) In many cases attachments will help, but only if there is a minimal build up of foreign matter. Attachments usually screw onto the garden hose and operate at 40 to 50 psi. Our Hydro Cleaning process uses high pressure water (500 to 3000 psi) to remove odor causing elements from the tanks with water flow.

Q) How often should I give holding tanks a thorough Hydro-Cleaning?
A) We recommend that the RV'er Hydro Clean at least once a year to keep foreign matter from building up or just before winterizing.

Q) How long does the Hydro cleaning process take, and do I need to leave my RV?
A) The Hydro Cleaning process is scheduled by appointment and completed in just one hour while you wait. There is no need to leave your RV.

Q) How do I know all the foreign matter is out of my tanks?
A) The customer can watch the process through clear pipe connectors and can tell when the water turns clean and clear. We also offer a fiber optic camera that provides a good view of the tanks interior.

Before Buying or Renting an RV

Science has shown that diseases such as E-Coli and hepatitis C can travel from person to person in the form of human waste matter (Remember when you got some of it on your hands at the dump station?) The risk of disease can be greatly reduced by starting off your RV experience with holding tanks that are cleaned professionally.

What we see in holding tank sanitation pertaining to pre-owned RV's being sold and rented to customers is horrid! Our cameras prove every day that chemicals are not doing the job. There is no more guess work involved in buying a used RV. Call us and we’ll bring out our video equipment and snake a camera right into the holding tank so you can see what you are REALLY buying!

Public awareness to the dangers and diseases in unclean holding tanks has begun but it is up to the consumer to force RV Dealers to professionally clean the RV holding tanks before these vehicles are re-sold or rented to other families. Remember, it is the right thing to do! If a dealer won’t clean the holding tanks properly, then don’t buy or rent from them.

What Chemicals REALLY Do in Your RV Tanks

In our opinion, there is not one chemical that is currently on the market that truly cleans the tanks and the sensors as they all advertise. This is blatant false advertising, but instead of suing each and every chemical company, we are going to give you the facts about what chemicals really do in your black tanks.

Please remember, that we use fiber-optic cameras with our RV holding tank service and we can see these dirty tanks and sensors as they come in for service.

Every black tank chemical company advertises that their product breaks down, or liquefies waste. Well, that is exactly what they do. They create a sludge or a thick pancake like batter in the black tank and make it harder to get it out of the tank. In other words, these chemicals make a big mess in your tanks.

Then, when you pull your slider valve handles to dump your black tank , only about 80% of the sludge will discharge, leaving the other 20% to start coating the inside walls of the tank and the sensors. This is why 70% of the 8 million RVer's in this country are having sensor misreading problems. Of course the sensor is reading dirty, because the inside of the tank is dirty.

So you go back to the RV dealer and get some different chemical to try and solve the problems the other chemical caused! You buy a different brand and hope you will have better luck.....not so! These chemical companies have you coming and going. It sounds more like the tobacco industry; they sell you a product that causes a problem and then hook you on the product for more sales.

The solution is to JUST SAY NO to chemical dependency! Throw your chemicals in the trash can and learn how to discharge the holding tank waste with water only.

Remember, water flow is friction and friction is what cleans tanks and sensors. A surplus of clean water in and out of the tank is the best all natural cleaning agent. If you were to stop using black tank chemicals right now and "kick the habit ", your tanks would start to self-clean themselves with the friction of water flow only, because you have stopped making a big mess in your tanks.

One final comment… think of your RV as a house. Did you have to chemically break down the waste in your toilet before you flushed it? Of course not! You let the all natural force of water flow move the waste out of the toilet and into the city's wastewater department. Remember, natural water flow created the Grand Canyon. Cleaning out a holding tank shouldn’t be a problem.
